The information space allows to review the preparation’s process for the move and the different stages that mark it.     “Tresor 31: Techno, Berlin und die große Freiheit” was a two-month-long exhibition and concert series commemorating three decades since Tresor’s inception in 1991 and reflecting on the impact of the club on techno music and Berlin’s cultural landscape. The graphic concept was based on archives footage, combined and overlapped in a T-shaped layout thanks to a generative and kinetic online animation. This tool was used extensively for digital assets, as well as for creating printed material and poster series throughout the city.

    Galerie C is an independent contemporary art space in Neuchâtel founded in 2011 by Christian Egger. Following the opening of a second exhibition space in the heart of the Marais district in Paris, the corporate identity was revamped with a typographic facelift and an adaptation of the logo we designed back in 2010. The aim was to provide better visibility for the artists presented and better complementarity between digital and printed communication.

    In this compendious work, two dozen university professors share their expertise about digital technology and architecture. The Atlas offers an orientation to the ways in which computers are used in architecture. We were involved in the project from the outset, defining its structure and navigation, designing the book and typesetting the myriad of texts and codes fragments as well as the diagrams. A web platform providing online resources completes the publication.

This story has inspired many writers, including Friedrich Dürrenmatt, who made it the subject of his first play, “Es ist geschrieben”, in 1947. The play was staged in Paris in 1952 as “Les Fous de Dieu”, causing a polemic but also launching his career as a playwright. The design of the exhibition draws on this scandal, using newspaper clippings and headlines, as well as various archive materials, to explore Dürrenmatt’s complex relationship with faith throughout his life.

    The exhibition and its accompanying publication have a distinct visual identity that draws inspiration from the color scheme of monochromatic paintings used on the lower part of walls in Soviet buildings. This design principle is employed in the exhibition for wall panels and titles, as well as in the book for chapter pages and the cover. The color palette complements a custom typeface that was created specifically for the project. This modernist sans-serif typeface can display both Latin and Cyrillic scripts, making it suitable for use in various media throughout the project.

    The exhibition and its accompanying publication have a distinct visual identity that draws inspiration from the color scheme of monochromatic paintings used on the lower part of walls in Soviet buildings. This design principle is employed in the exhibition for wall panels and titles, as well as in the book for chapter pages and the cover. The color palette complements a custom typeface that was created specifically for the project. This modernist sans-serif typeface can display both Latin and Cyrillic scripts, making it suitable for use in various media throughout the project.

    The Centre Dürrenmatt Neuchâtel (CDN) showcases the paintings of Friedrich Dürrenmatt (1921–1990), the world-renowned writer and playwright, as they relate to his literary works in a permanent exhibition. Designed by Mario Botta around Dürrenmatt’s former home, the museum also stages temporary exhibitions and events. We completely redesigned the museum’s identity in 2016, revamping the existing logo and developing a new visual system based on the “umlaut”, symbol of the bilingualism of the writer and the institution. The visual system is regularly expressed through posters and flyers, exhibition graphics and related publications, among other mediums.

Onlab is a Swiss graphic design studio. The team works on short and long-term commissioned, collaborative and self-initiated projects, primarily in the cultural field of editorial design and visual communication in Switzerland and abroad. Onlab’s work ranges from books, visual identities and posters to websites, data visualisations and exhibition design.

The studio’s multidisciplinary approach involves collaborations with a wide network of professionals, including developers, architects, photographers, illustrators or filmmakers. Onlab’s process is thorough and respectful of content. The formal approach always bases on the subject to articulate a bespoke visual language, and to translate a topic into a highly aesthetic, haptic but also accessible product.

Onlab’s expertise extends beyond graphic design and is not media specific. Among other services, the studio offers global solutions for exhibitions, including visual communication and publications in addition to spatial design conception, resulting in a comprehensive and experience for visitors.

The team is also actively involved in education, teaching and giving workshops and lectures at various schools, universities and professional training programmes.
