With the Swiss novelist and poet Blaise Cendrars (1887-1961) the Musée des beaux-arts in La Chaux-de-Fonds was honoring one of the city’s most famous sons. Running from November 16th, 2014, to March 1st, 2015, the exhibition depicted Cendrar’s influence and multiple collaborations within the artistic and intellectual circles at the rise of the 20th century.
We have been invited to take responsibility for the conception and implementation of the design and communication of the exhibition, including the realization of the exhibition’s catalogue. The 400-pages-book can be read as a richly illustrated mirror of the museum installation, guiding the reader in chapters through the twelve different sections of the exhibition, and providing deep background information about both one of the ultimate French litterateurs and great adventurers of modern art and the manifold artistic circles he was an important part of. The appearance of the catalogue is based on the design of the exhibition, adapting the signage of colors and typography to the printed medium.
