Bouchra Khalili

Foreign Office

With the exhibition Foreign Office (February 18th – May 17th, 2015) the Palais de Tokyo in Paris presents a series of new works by Bouchra Khalili, made up of films, photographs, and documents. In these works the Berlin based artist with Maroccan-French origins associates subjectivity and collective history in order to question the complex relationships between colonial and postcolonial history, contemporary migration and its geographies and stories, and the imaginary that result from it. Produced in Algeria, Foreign Office (2015) is part of the artist’s investigations about the forms and discourses of resistance as expressed by the members of minority groups that arise from these colonial and postcolonial histories.

We have been invited to design and realize the catalogue accompagnying the exhibition, which has been organized on the occasion of Bouchra Khalili being awarded the SAM Prize for Contemporary Art 2013. This prize is offered by SAM Art Projects in the aim to help, promote and defend the work of contemporary artists from non-western countries, and to encourage artistic exchanges and cultural links.
