What would it mean to reformulate the architectural question about the genesis, conincidence and structure of the “Wissensmögliche” from a genuin urban point of view? In doing so, mediality would have to play an important role. It would be the epitome of everything that in its meaning can be communicated, sustained, developed, and created.
Inversing Marshall McLuhan’s dictum “The medium is the message”, Vera Bühlmann outlines a generic idea of mediality addressing the self-referential and continuing maneuverability of medial instrumentality. In this sense, mediality is getting contoured as element of shared, discontinous, and both mutually challenging and generating possibilities, arising from a symbolic nature of the general.
‘Die Nachricht, ein Medium’ is the fifth book we designed for the Applied Virtuality Book Series, edited by Ludger Hovestadt and Vera Bühlmann.
